Your Questions Answered
What makes Mile High Water Company different?
MHW is a member run co-op that distributes water to approx 300 households in unincorporated Adams and Boulder County.
Where does our water come from?
Our water is purchased from the city of Broomfield. We have a 50 year contract in place to purchase water from them.
Who runs MHW?
MHW has a board with 7 members. The board members are your neighbors who are volunteering their time to keep everything running. We also have an accountant Renee and supervisor Fritz that we pay for their services.
How are we billed?
Every month a postcard is mailed that shows your water usage for the month and the base rate. You can mail in a check or pay online and set up auto payments by clicking on the “Bill Pay” link at the top of the page.
What happens if I'm late to pay my bill?
If you are behind on payments, you will receive an email from Renee letting you know. There is a late fee for anything overdue by 60 days. If you are 90 days past due, you will receive a door tag with a notice that water will be shut off if the bill is not paid by the specified date.
What areas do you serve?
MHW covers the unincorporated areas of Adams County from 156th south to 144th and from Huron west to Zuni.
The unincorporated Boulder County area is the Pony Estates subdivision NW of 144th and Sheridan.
How do I request a tap?
In order to request a tap, you must first have a physical address for the property. A written request for a tap can be emailed to Renee. It must include the owner’s name and address and that a tap is being requested.
Once we receive this, we will send the request to Broomfield. All tap request must be approved by Broomfield by the City Council. Once they receive the letter, they will add it to the meeting agenda for a future meeting. Sometimes this is 2-3 months away. At the meeting, they will either approve or deny the request. Once it has been approved, they will let us know and we can continue the process of adding a new meter.
Who is responsible for water line breaks?
MHW is responsible for any water line breaks on the main and side lines. Anything that happens after the meter is the responsibility of the home owner.
Due to higher water pressure in our system, we recommend installing a PRV (pressure relief valve) to your house and sprinkler lines to protect them.
How can I get involved with MHW?
MHW board members meet monthly. If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a board member, you can call or send an email to see about joining us for a meeting. The annual meeting is when we vote for 2 members and the best place to find out more.
